About Us

The Eugene-Springfield Mixed Seniors Golf Club is open to men and women age 55 and above. Beginner-level golfers are welcome, although all Club members are expected to have some previous golf experience. All members play, regardless of their individual skill level.

The 2025 Club golf season begins on Wednesday, May 7, continuing every Wednesday through Oct. 15.  All Club play will take place at Oakway Golf Course, 2000 Cal Young Rd. in Eugene  (Ph. 541-484-1927)

Club membership dues are $35, which applies regardless of when someone joins or how often they play with the group. New members may optionally pay $20 when they apply, with the $15 balance due in 45 days. The same applies to any returning members for whom a single $35 payment constitutes a financial hardship. Dues are used for prizes, supplies and other incidental costs, and a year-end luncheon.

There are several ways to obtain the 2025 membership application form. (1) Copies of the form are available at the Oakway Golf Course clubhouse. (2) Or, you may request to have one emailed to you by contacting Gary Coombs at gbcoombs4@gmail.com. (3) You may click here to view and download the application form. Finally, (4) depending on the device that you're using, you may be able to click on the pop-out box that appears in the upper right corner of the application image that you see directly below. This will open the application form in a new browser window from which you can download the form for printing.

Each Wednesday that they play with the group, Club members will pay the regular green fee for 9 holes that is in effect at Oakway on that day (i.e., the posted rate). Note: For 2025, there will be no additional daily Club fees (25¢ or 50¢) as in previous years.

New for 2025! As an additional benefit of Club membership, all members in good standing may play golf for FREE any Wednesday from March 19 through April 9, courtesy of Oakway Golf Course.

A Typical Club Day

For new and prospective members, the following provides a glimpse of what a typical Wednesday morning Club outing might look like:

Starting time is 9:00 am. This will remain in effect unless the majority of members vote for a time change. The group meets in the covered area adjacent to the Oakway clubhouse and breezeway entry. Most members arrive at least a few minutes early, mostly for socializing or individual putting practice. For the past several years, Oakway has graciously provided the membership with complimentary doughnuts to enjoy before golf.

The first official activity each day is for each member to mark themself present next to their name on the Club sign-in sheet. Everyone must sign in not later than the 9 am start time. If someone is late, they may still play with the group but will not be eligible for prizes or be a member of a competing team. (An exception to this rule may be made if including the late player makes for a better set of groups.)

The weekly Club meeting will start at about 10-15 minutes past 9. The meeting will cover that day's game(s), the awarding of prizes to winners of games held in previous weeks, and the discussion of other matters of importance to the membership.

The group will play different games each week. Sometimes there will be more than one game. The games will be varied so that players of all skill levels will be winners. Both single-player and team games are played. The game schedule will be announced in advance at the Wednesday meetings and in the Calendar section of this website.

Each player will play either the front nine or the back nine. Usually, this will be determined via a random method, such as a card draw. Players will also be assigned the order in which they play   ̶̶̶  first group to tee-off, second group, and so on. On most days there are 5-9 groups in total, front and back combined.

Each group is assigned a number   ̶̶̶  to indicate whether they will be playing on the front nine (odd numbers) or back nine (even numbers) and the order in which the groups will tee-off   ̶̶̶  Group #1 is first to tee off on the front, #2 is first to tee off on the back, #3 is second to tee off on the front, and so on.

If the day's game is a multi-player game, the players will also be assigned to teams. Sometimes this is done randomly; other times it may be based on player handicap or other criteria.

Generally, we start teeing off at about 9:30 (roughly 30 minutes after the sign-in deadline).  Normally, all groups have finished play before 12 noon.

Two players from each group will keep score for everyone in that group. When a group has finished its 9 holes, the two scorekeepers will complete their cards, compare them, and correct any discrepancies. Both cards will then be turned in. At this point all members of the group are finished for the day.
